A Little About Me

Today is the 61st day of my 60th year. Some would say you're only as old as you feel. Well, today I feel "old as dirt"! I was up at 5 AM, let the little dog (Patches) out, trudged out back to let the two big dogs (Rosie and Yogi) out of their pen, finally got my coffee and tried to focus on the local news and weather while our two cats (Calicat and Birdie) vied for my attention. So far, so good - a normal morning. One half cup of coffee later, the mad morning dash started. Get ready for work and out the door by 6 AM. My morning drive is almost an hour and by choice I work a 7-3:30 day.

Work is - well - work. I am A/P manager in a small office for a nationwide cleaning company. The whole office consists of 16 people. Now, the title of manager sounds impressive until you understand that the manager is the whole department. The same applies to the insurance manager, payroll manager, and so on. Our owner believes in equal opportunity, so everyone has a title whether he needs it or not.

I really love all my co-workers (God says I must), I just like some better than others. This is the most dysfunctional functioning office I have ever worked in. Our age range is 18 to 65+. There are 15 women and 1 man who is sure he is in purgatory. I'm pretty sure he is, too. We have college grads, school of hard knocks grads, high school grads, and everything in between. As time goes on, I'll talk more about each individually.

Back to my day. Today was really yesterday. On Monday I arrived at work first, as usual. As I pulled in, I realized the week old security light was not on. Now this was not good. The reason it was installed is because there was a rape 3 doors down the street 10 days ago and the (expletive deleted) guy is still on the loose. As I was hurrying across the lot, I began to see wires and broken glass everywhere. Yep---a drunk driver had hit the pole and torn all the wiring off the building leaving us with no power, heat or communications. To make a long story short, work was cancelled. Today we all arrived to start cramming 5 busy days into 4. Not really a big deal. It happens everywhere you work on occasion. The problem is that we are 3 people short of a full compliment. Of course, that's our opinion, not our owner's. There are no extras to help out in emergencies. However, he is letting us make up the lost hours to get the job done. We are blessed! By 4 PM I had crammed all my brain could handle for one day and escaped.

It would be nice to say my day was over, but----NOT. After the hour drive home there was still the matter of talking to the dogs, hearing about their day, listening to the cats complain about each other, and of course dinner for Dave and me. Then, Heaven knows why, I decided to create this blog.

Oh, well. We'll see how it goes-------------------------------
